Before this show I programmed the console, made all of my paperwork, organized the sound shop, ran all of the system cabling, and communicated with the director about the entire sound design. Due to a tight timeline with following shows, I had to be as prepared as possible when going into this show.
Considering this was my first show in this space, and it is my first actor-musician show, things got complicated very quickly in tech, and unfortunately my equipment failed on me throughout the run. It took a lot of adaptability to jump into the deep end and manage this show at the same time as 2-3 other shows. A notable challenge to figure out was figuring out how to route an electric guitar wirelessly through the system and balance it well in the monitors. This was a loud show in a small space, so balancing the levels of everything became a unique challenge. I ended up setting custom levels for every actor and instrument between every single song in order to make it sound as best as possible. This show was my first professional production, my first time designing a musical, my first time doing an actor-musician show, my first time running a sound shop, my first time using a lot of this equipment, and my first time running all sound operations without help. It wasn't without failure, but I learned a lot about every aspect of live sound during the process. The end result was an amazing production. I used a Behringer X32 to mix this show. |
